Revival
‘I feel convinced that hand-spinning and hand-weaving will make the largest contribution to the economic and the moral regeneration of India’.
Mahatma Gandhi
It is the need of the hour to make aware to the world the concept and presence of handlooms and handicrafts. Fuelled by this instant gratification has led to the disruption of countless systems that once were self-reliant and self-sufficient. This takeover has ensured that arts and crafts have become mere assembly line productions, which take away from them their very essence and uniqueness.
Srijani Foundation works against the odds in spaces and places that remain stuck in a time which feels alien to the outside world. Penetrating rural areas which brim with immense talent but are shrouded under the binding claws of old world systems is an uphill task which the Foundation does not shy away from.
Through their travels and explorations, both men and women have come forward to share their stories, to partake in a process that will take its time to change the fabric of societal norms. So far, there has been a steady rise in hand spinning, weaving, and traditional embroidery; as well as a demand for these products in the textile market. Revival is essential to destroy the threats of extinction. And so, Srijani Foundation brings to people the chance to speak again, to share again, to dare to dream again through one dori (thread), one weave, and one stitch at a time.
