Jinali Charcoal Grey Silk
$ 174.40
“Jinali is a charcoal-black silk-cotton blend baavanbuti sari, embellished with 52 motifs in white across its 6 meter length. It has a 1 meter blouse with 0.5 cms stripes in charcoal-black and yellow.
Baavanbuti is the heritage sari of Bihar with a history of at last 300 years, popular as an auspicious gift of exchange between families on festive and religious celebrations. This is an arduous form of weaving where only a skilled weaver can create intricate motifs using an extra spool of yarn by inserting the yarn into the weft that supports the warp on the loom. Any new motif requires a well plotted graph of the designed motif and the weaver uses this as his reference while creating the designed motifs.
This requires a skilled weaver where even despite his skills, he may have to open the motif several times to create the correct one, both in design shape, size and its placement.
This traditional skill of weaving faced an extinction when Bun.Kar Bihar stepped-in and since has worked to preserve and promote the heritage weaves of the state.”
